April 18, 1927 – April 13, 2022
Ariel Augustus Larson passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 13, 2020, just shy of his 95 th birthday. Ariel was born to Charles J. and Mary S. (Hill) Larson on April 18, 1927, at the ranch home where his lived his entire life.
He attended school at Roubaix. After WWII was declared, he enlisted in the Army and was assigned to Pearl Harbor. Once dismissed from the Army, he was back to running cattle with his brothers along with being employed at Black Hills Power and Light for 27 years, most of which was at Kirk Power Plant.
On December 17, 1966, he united in marriage with Anita Toppila Kerr, after a 7-year courtship. They built their home at the same family ranch where Ariel lived until the Dementia could no longer be controlled.
His hobbies included hunting and fishing and a great game of poker. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Masonic Lodge and the Shriners, taking pride in running their van to the Shriner's Children's Hospital in MN for the kids to make their appointments.
He is survived by his wife, Anita, Deadwood; three children Rebecca Kerr, Rapid City, SD; Laura Garduno (Ralph) Wadsworth, OH; Dan Kerr (Jacque), Brighton, CO, four grandsons, Sean Henninger, Eric Henninger, Jeff Kerr, Robert (Bailey); two nieces, Claudette Tammi, Deadwood and Sharon Woodle (Larry), Deadwood; two nephews, Charles Larson (Judy), LaMesa, CA and Gary Larson (Karon), Deadwood; along with several grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, four brothers, a grand-niece Erika and a grand-nephew Jeremey.
Interment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery on May 20, 2022 at 11:00am. A celebration of life will be held this summer at the ranch.
