Ardie (Tibbs) Cook, 85, formerly of Spearfish, SD, died March 21, 2009 in Texas.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at United Church of Christ in Spearfish, SD, with Pastor Peg Grzelkowski officiating.
Ardie was born September 11, 1923 at Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, youngest daughter of John and Florence Tibbs. She graduated from Ft. Pierre High School in 1941, and married Giles Rheborg in October 1941. He was inducted into the U.S. Army, W.W. II. Shortly thereafter she moved to Kirland, Washington, and worked at Lake Washington Shipyards as Secretary to the President. She attended night courses at Seattle School of business. After the war they returned to Fort Pierre where they raised two daughters Cindy and Peggy. They were divorced in 1965.
She worked as Assistant Secretary for the SD State Highway Commission from 1952-1967. In June of 1967 she married William D Cook and joined him in spearfish, where she worked as President's Aide to the President of Black Hills State College from July, 1967 to June 1985. She then retired with 30 years of service to the State of South Dakota serving under five Governors.
After Bills' death in 1983, she married Ray Denis from Saskatchewan, Canada in 1991. They resided in Spearfish until his death in 2003. She then moved to San Antonio, Texas to be close to her two daughters, after the death of her daughter Peggy in May of 2007, she made the move to Rockport, Texas with her daughter Cindy and husband Monte.
She was a member of United Church of Christ, the American Business Women's Association and the South Dakota Republican Women.
Survivors include her daughter Cindy E Miller, two Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren, all of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, along with six brothers and three sisters. Tom Tibbs, Johnny Tibbs, Thad Tibbs of Ft. Pierre, S.D., Frank Tibbs of Ridgeview, S.D., Ancel Tibbs of Mission Ridge, S.D., Casey Tibbs of Ramona, California, Mrs. Lyle (Dollie) Muir of Kirkland, Wa., Mrs. Lloyd (Katie) Hannum and Mrs. John (Murphy) Holloway of Ft. Pierre, South Dakota.
