Annemarie Ermler was born in 1935 in Wiesbaden, Germany to Ernst and Anna Ermler. Following her were her siblings Ursula, Hanne and Otto. Her Vatti did not survive the war and her mother endured to provide for the children.
In 1954 she gave birth to her first son, Walter. With her mother, brother Otto and son she crossed the ocean in 1962 to join relatives in Luverne, Minnesota. She began work at the Rock County Bank.
She met Erwin Eisner at the Arkota Club in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where local German immigrants met on Saturday nights to dance.
Erwin fell in love with Annemarie and built her a house in Brandon, South Dakota, married her in 1964. She worked at the local bank, while Erwin continued working at Foremost Dairy in Sioux Falls.
The family grew later in 1964 when the second son, Thomas was born. The third son, Eric, followed in 1968.
The family returned to Luverne in 1969 and Annemarie began a new life as a stay-at-home mom. She eventually began a new career as a volunteer library assistant and then a full-fledged librarian at the Rock County Community Library. Being a librarian, mother and wife were her most rewarding experiences.
In 1990, Annemarie got her first daughter as Walter married Jan. In 1993, son Thomas presented Annemarie and Erwin with their first grandson, Christopher.
When they retired in 1998 they moved into the house in Sioux Falls that Annemarie's mother Anna had lived and Erwin had helped build as a young man.
For the next sixteen years, Annemarie and Erwin travelled with family and friends in the summer and lived on the Florida beach in the winter.
At the end of 2005, they travelled with the family to Krakow, Poland to gather up another daughter. Eric married Urszula on New Year's Eve. A second grandson, Alexander was born to Urszula and Eric in 2008 and brother Ean followed in 2011.
Annemarie and Erwin filled their bucket list in early 2014 by travelling to the mountains of Panama. They returned and cruised the Caribbean, before driving back to Sioux Falls.
Their last bucket list item was finding a small apartment in Spearfish, South Dakota, to watch their grandsons grow up and enjoy the Black Hills, a family vacation destination for fifty years.
A large family gathering was planned for the end of July, 2014 to celebrate many milestone, including Annemarie and Erwin's 50th wedding anniversary, two sons celebrating their 50th and 60th birthdays and catch up on a postponed family Christmas.
The gathering, however, turned into a celebration of Annemarie's life after the devastating diagnosis of leukemia.
Annemarie and Erwin would not, however, give up on that last dream. They packed up and went to live her remaining days in the arms of her family in Spearfish.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit Hospice of the Northern Hills.
