Ann Katherine Henning, 78 years old, Spearfish , SD passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on September 25th, 2024.

Ann was born on March 4, 1946 in Hermosa Beach, CA,  the oldest child of Alfreda Cameron. Ann was raised and graduated high school in Rapid City, SD. She obtained a bachelor's degree in education at Black Hills State College. While attending college there, she met the love of her life and the most handsome man she'd ever met, Grant Henning. He was a newly hired professor who was lost and looking for directions to his classroom. They were married six months later in August 1968. Their daughter Sara was born in 1973 and Beth in 1978.

Ann worked part time in retail and substitute teaching but her main priority and joy was raising her daughters. Later in life, she decided to pursue a degree in nursing, graduating from South Dakota State University in 1991. Ann worked as a registered nurse at the hospital in Spearfish for 20+ years, retiring in 2014. She was an exceptional, caring nurse and mentor to many other nurses over her career.

In 2003, Ann became a grandmother to twin granddaughters which brought her such joy. They were the light of her life and her eyes would beam when she talked about them. She never missed an event and she showered them with love.

Ann most enjoyed spending time with her family, fishing trips with Grant, camping, gardening, and traveling to Virginia and Washington DC to play tourist with Sara. She was incredibly proud of her daughters and granddaughters. She was the most loving, kind, generous person and was loved by everyone who knew her. We are all better for having had her in our lives. We will miss you forever mom.

She is survived by daughter Sara Sorensen (Eric), daughter Beth Hermanson (Nathan), granddaughters Natalie and Caitlin Hermanson, brother Michael Cameron, sister Mary LeJeune, nieces, and cousins. She was welcomed into heaven by her husband Grant Henning, mother Alfreda (Cameron) Hontol, brother Larry Cameron, grandparents and many aunts.

Come and go visitation will be held from 4-6 PM Thursday, October 3rd at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Rosary with Mass of Christian Burial following will be held on October 4th at 9:30 and 10:30 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish with Fr. Francis Nsubuga officiating.  She will be laid to rest with her husband at Black Hills National Cemetery. All are welcome to celebrate her life.
