In November of 1942 Sam married Alice Clark. In the fall of 1943 the Lappe family all moved to the Hinckley, MN area where Sam and Alice owned a dairy farm. In 1944 the United States military informed Sam that he needed to get his affairs in order as he was being called to serve in WW II. After having an auction and bringing Alice back to her family in Wyoming, he awaited his final notice to report to war, but it never came. He then returned to Alice in Wyoming and worked for several area ranches and worked for Homestake Mining Company at Moskee, WY. In 1952 Sam joined the Wyoming Department of Transportation spending a great deal of time plowing snow on the Wyoming highways and roads. He started with the D.O.T. in Sundance and transferred to Hulett in 1953 and back to Sundance in1959. Following his retirement Sam continued to live in Sundance. Sam loved spending time with his family, hunting and telling stories.

He is survived by his children; Dallas (Alice) Lappe of Newcastle, Eileen (Larry) Coleman of Sundance and Marlin (Jean) Lappe of Gillette, seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice in October of 2000, one son, Victor in 1946, granddaughter, Bertina Coleman-Berkey and three brothers; Bernard, Albert and Nels.
