Aloha Lane Thompson, 85 of Sundance, WY, passed away on August 28, 2013 at her home.
Aloha was born on February 7, 1928, in Hay Springs, NE to Oreal Kennard (O.K.) and Gladys Lorraine (Carlon) Miller. The family left the Hay Springs area after the crash in 1929, moving to the northwest corner of Kansas.
Aloha attended schools in Kansas, Nebraska, Oregon and Cheyenne, WY, beginning with first grade at the rural school two and a half miles from the farm, at the age of four. In her third year, the family moved to Benkelman, NE, then north to Madrid, NE. At the finish of 8th grade, the family moved to Springfield, OR and in November left there and returned to Cheyenne, WY where Aloha finished high school. She attended Wyoming Beauty School, and was licensed to work in January of 1946 retained the license for over forty years, letting it lapse only after moving to south Texas in 1989.
Aloha and Glen Wesley Thompson were married on February 20, 1948, in the First United Methodist Church in Cheyenne.
Together they had three children, Tani Lee Sandy, Carla Lynn (Perry) Livingston and Daniel Glen (Dian) Thompson.
The main interest of her life was the rearing of the children, keeping family generations together and the family history being told and retold by Glen's aunts and mother. She rarely worked outside the home while the children were small, but when any of the family or a friend needed a child to be looked after, Aloha was quick to oblige. The children were almost always a pleasure. Aloha also enjoyed ongoing Bible reading, secular reading, embroidery, crochet and some knitting, though she was never proficient at the latter. Through her Bible readings she developed a close relationship with her God. In loyalty to him she was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on April 22, 2007. Traveling was also the source of much pleasure, the states, Canada, Mexico and Hawaii were an education not available in school.
She is survived by her husband, Glen; two children, Tani and Daniel; five grandchildren, Deanna Merrill, Ben Sandy, Travis Livingston, Chris Livingston, Brett Thompson; two step-grandsons, Bryan Leonard and Chance Leonard; and great-grandson Bruinkor. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, O. Carlon Miller; and daughter Carla Lynn Livingston.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 1900 Windmill Drive in Spearfish. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit Treasured Memories Hospice or a charity of your choice.
