Lois received her 8th grade certificate while herding sheep from a sheep wagon on Sunny Divide and Kara Creek.
On Sept, 1934 Lois married Ted Thorne in Belle Fourche. The couple ranched and operated sawmills, first on the home place at Sunny Divide and then at the present Thorne Ranch on Lytle Creek, where they moved to in 1943. In 1984, they moved to Hulett.
Lois enjoyed working at the Devils Tower Monument and the Devils Tower KOA. She had a love for life which included the outdoors, taking long walks, growing flowers, gardening, and caring for animals. At the top of the list was Spike, an Airedale. The ultimate joy was her family. She had a sincere concern for each individual and set a legacy for all of us to follow.
