Allen Selmer Johnson, 85, Sturgis, SD died Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at his home.
Allen was born May 30, 1927 at Hettinger, ND to Selmer and Clara (Jacobson) Johnson. They moved soon thereafter to Saco, MT, where he grew up and attended school. He entered into the U.S. Navy in 1945 at the end of World War II. After serving in the Navy he returned to Saco and completed high school. He married June Munsell in September, 1946. During this time he also began a 42 year career with Montana Dakota Utilities Co., during those years he lived in several areas including Saco, Meeteetse, WY, and finished his career in the Lead-Deadwood area, where he finished his career as manager of the Northern Hills area for MDU.
He enjoyed golf and dabbled in small businesses, including making golf clubs and an upholstery business. He enjoyed construction and built three of his own homes. He also enjoyed coffee time with his friends and family.
He is survived by three daughters; Harriett S. (Russ) Reed, Dent, MN, Clareen K. (Terry) James, Pierre, SD, Diana G. (Michael) Penberthy, Otis Orchards, WA; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, companion, Jeannie Harlan, Sturgis; brother, Marlin Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife June, grandson, Frank Reed and sister-in-law Annanett Johnson.
Visitation for Allen will be from 4-7 PM, Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel in Lead. Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Lead. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. A memorial has been established to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.
