Allen was born on January 5, 1919 to Leo and Pearle Dickey. He was born on his parent's ranch between Upton and Sundance. In those days babies were born with a midwife assisting. It wasn't easy to get to a doctor or for the doctor to reach a country home in the winter time.
He grew to manhood on his parents homestead. He attended the Arch Creek, Douglas, Busbey and Canfield schools. At that point in time ranchers and farmers children went to a one room school house. They usually had to go up to 3 miles to get to school. He didn't attend high school so he missed getting all the childhood diseases only to get a couple of them after he reached manhood. The school consisted of one room with all eight grades at a time. At an early age it was necessary for him to scuffle for himself which he did quite well.
On August 1, 1939 he married Dorothy McLain. He was living in his father's place. She was teaching at the Canfield school and staying at her sister Gertrude Kokesh's and her husband. He was living with his father in the same community she was teaching. The courtship started when he took her to a dance, it lasted 3 years.
The first three years after marriage he worked at the Wyodak Bentnite plant out of Upton. In the spring of 1942 he and his wife left Upton so he could go to work on defense jobs at various places around the country in Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, Texas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma.
In 1943 he moved with his wife to Rocky Point, WY. To work for his wife's parents who owned a ranch. He worked for them for three years at that time in 1946 he and his wife bought the place. He was a hard worker and very efficient at any job he undertook. He lived with his wife on this place for 41 years when they decided to sell the ranch and move back to Upton in the spring of 1984. This move completed a full circle.
After moving back to Upton he went to work for his wife's nephew Don Kokesh who owned the place that his folks once owned and where he grew up years ago. This was like coming home again. He worked for Don for many years. Allen was a kind, loving and generous husband and a friend to all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his parents Leo and Pearle Dickey, three brothers, Clarence Dickey, Leo Jr. Dickey and Millard Dickey, one sister "Ruby" died at an early age. He is survived by one sister, Dorothy of Rawlins, WY.
The couple had no children but a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who all loved him very much.
