Allan John Block, 84, of Spearfish, SD passed away peacefully on February 28, 2024, at Spearfish Canyon Healthcare.

Al was born in Round Lake, MN to Wilbert and Elsie Block on February 3, 1940. He attended Worthington Community College following his graduation from Round Lake High School in 1958. During those years he worked in the Civil Engineer's office for the city of Worthington where his love of project and community development solidified. He completed his bachelor's degree at SDSU in Brookings, SD. While attending SDSU he met Norma Moore, his former wife. Together they had three children, Tim, Lisa, and Todd. Al went on to obtain a master's degree in business at the University of Minnesota, Mankato. In 1994 he married Kathryn (Hawkins) Cazel.

Having grown up on a farm, Al loved equipment, but particularly cars and carried that interest through his entire life. Al's life work took him to a variety of states, Minnesota, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Iowa, Illinois, Oregon, North Dakota, and South Dakota. He developed approximately 7,000 city housing lots during his career.

Al is survived by his wife, Kathy, daughter Lisa Hill of Boise, ID, son Todd (Jane) Block of Crowley, TX, Siblings: Linda (Terrie) Gulden, Stan (Sharon) Block, and Steve Block. Grandchildren: Sarah Block, Katie Block, Cassidy Hill, and Spencer Hill.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wilbert and Elsie Block, son Tim Block, sisters-in-law Linda and Rosalie Block.

Al's intelligence, kindness, and generosity was known by all, and he will be dearly missed. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a future date in Round Lake, MN.
