Alice Arlene Sherwood quietly passed away on April 4, 2022, at the age of 97. She was born on June 14, 1924, to Hazel and Louis Frandsen on their ranch in the Slim Buttes. She resided on the ranch and attended Rock Ranch School through the eighth grade, spent her freshman year of high school in Lead, then graduated from Reeder High School (ND) in 1942. Following graduation, she received a teaching certificate and taught for two years at a country school in Acheta, Wyoming.
Alice excelled in whatever undertaking she chose to do, especially gardening, sewing, crocheting, knitting, and cooking scrumptious meals and baked goods. Being a mother to her children gave her the most lasting joy.
Preceding her in death were her parents, three sisters and four brothers, husbands and many close friends. She is survived by a son, Walter (Mary) Ferguson, grandchildren Melissa, Ryan, Joseph, Andrew, and Joey of Vancouver, WA and a daughter, Karen (Wayne) (Ferguson) Copas, grandchildren Tyler and Sterling, of Spearfish, plus a brother, Robert (Margie) Frandsen of Hettinger, ND several great and great-great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
Thank you to all the staff at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living, who took wonderful care of her the last 18 years, followed by Spearfish Canyon Health Care the last few months before her passing.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:30 pm on June 27, 2022, at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish, SD. Inurnment has taken place in Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche, SD.
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Isburg Crematory of Spearfish.
