Alice J. Masker, 75, Rapid City, SD formerly of Spearfish died Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at her home.
Alice was born on January 2, 1938 in Sturgis, SD to Francis and Alice (Wilcox) Brown. An only child, she grew up on a farm outside of Wasta, SD. She loved to play the Banjo and was a member of the Gumbo Lily Kids Band, traveling with them and performing in different places in Western South Dakota. She graduated from Brown High School in Sturgis. She later met and married Harold E. Masker in a ceremony in Sturgis. They lived in Spearfish for the next 49 plus years raising three children Harold, Keith, and Ramona. We believe the children are what greatly contributed to her gray hair. During this time she worked for a time waitressing. She gardened, raised sheep, chinchillas, and tended to her pet cats. She volunteered as a Cub Scout Den Mother and in her "spare" time was a homemaker. She became a very proud grandmother for the first time in 1979 and in time had two more grandsons. In 2007 she moved to Rapid City to be near her son and closer to medical care. Alice was a member of Kingdom Hall in Spearfish a later in Rapid City.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her daughter. She is survived by her sons, Harold Masker of Rapid City, and Keith (Debbie) Masker of Spearfish; her grandsons, Keith Masker Jr. of Anchorage, AK, Christopher Storhaug and Michael Storhaug both of Sioux Falls, SD; four great- grandchildren; Step-daughter, Donna Kohut, her children and grandchildren.
