Obituary
Alice E. Gibson, 96 of Spearfish died Sunday, August 15, 2010 at Dorsett Regional Senior Care in Spearfish.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 20, 2010 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spearfish. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to benefit the Good Shepherd Clinic in Spearfish.
Alice was born December 24, 1913 to Frank and Elsie (Darland) Holtry in Zeona, South Dakota. She grew up on the family ranch in Perkins County and attended grade school at Spring Creek and graduated from Vale High School in 1932. She obtained her teaching certificate from Black Hills Normal School and taught in elementary schools in Harding, Perkins and Butte Counties for eleven years. Alice married Rollo "Pin" Gibson at the home of her parents in Zeona in 1937. They ranched near Bixby and Hoover before moving to Spearfish in 1959. While in Spearfish they owned and operated the Gibson Apartments, after the death of her husband in 1966, she continued to operate the apartments until 1975. She then moved to the Ponderosa Apartments and lived there for many years before moving to Garden Hills Assisted Living in 2009 and later moved to Dorsett Regional Senior Care in May of 2010.
Alice is survived by two sisters, Darlene Kiefert of Bremerton, WA and Doris Junek of Spearfish, daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Fred Fawkes of Hibbing, MN, son, Ronald Gibson of Spearfish, one granddaughter, three grandsons, one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter.
