Alfred 'Al' F. Jennings, 68, Spearfish, died on Thursday, June 11, 2014 at Rapid City Regional Hospital from an episode with his heart.
Al was born in Mitchell, SD to Alva & Ruth (Zuver) Jennings on December 15, 1945. Al spent time throughout his life with his beloved foster family the Orr's. He married Deborah A. Pierson on November 16, 1979 in Lead, SD.
He grew up in the Mitchell and Loomis area where he spent time on the Orr Farm and attended school. Throughout his life he had numerous jobs that included working on oil rigs, building trailer houses, concrete worker, rock quarry, and Homestake Gold Mine. He retired in 2012 from Spearfish Forest Products.
Al enjoyed spending his free time with his wife Debbie, friends and family while camping with the Good Sam's Club, fishing, attending auctions, church activities, and gaming. He was the treasurer of the Knights of Columbus at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Deadwood. He also had a love for old cars. There was not an old car that he did not own or want to own. He was in the process of restoring a '68 Mustang Convertible.
Survivors include his wife Debbie of Spearfish; children Don Al (Edyth) Jennings of Presho; Lourinda (Carl) Garner of Rapid City, Stephanie (Clint) Crowley of St. Onge, and Sandy Hayes of Rapid City; grandkids Justice & Brooke Jennings; August & Aiken Crowley; Andy, Shelby, Dylan and Carson Garner; Kevin and Mckinze Hayes; foster sister Dorothy Orr; stepbrother Ron Morehead. He has several brother and sisters-in-laws that meant the world to him as well. He mentored and unofficially adopted the neighbor boys, Chris, Michael, Shawn and Alex. He was preceded in death by his parents, foster parents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation for Al will be from 5:00-7:00 P.M., Sunday, June 15, 2014 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Deadwood, SD followed by Wake Services at 7:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 P.M., Monday, June 16, also at the church with burial following at Holy Cross Cemetery, Lead, SD.
