Dr. Alexander M. McBride, 90 of Spearfish, SD passed away peacefully at the Ft. Meade VA Medical Center on January 2, 2024 after a brief illness.  His wife of 59 years was by his side.

He was born to Dr. WPL and Molly McBride on March 1, 1933, in Johnson City, New York.  He was raised in Mendon, Vermont and graduated from Groton School, and Harvard College.  He moved west to attend Medical School at Northwestern University in Chicago, interned at St. Mary's Hospital in Minneapolis, MN and did his Urology Residency at the Minneapolis VA, the U of Minnesota and Children's Hospital in Columbus Ohio.

He met and married Lois J. Pringle of Deadwood, SD during his first year of residency and upon completion of his training, they moved to Mankato, MN where he practiced for 25 years.  In 1993, they moved to the Black Hills where he practiced at the Family Medical Center in Spearfish until retiring in 1998.

He was a member of the US Army Reserves and was called to active duty during the Gulf War of 1990.  He served at Moncrief Army Hospital in Columbus, SC and retired from the service in 1993 as a Lt. Colonel.

He is survived by his wife Lois; four children, Scott (Tracy), Carolyn Streiff (Lorne), Robert (Amber), and Theodore (Hon); 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A family service will be held at All Angels Episcopal Church in Spearfish. Burial with full military honors will  take place at 11:00am Tuesday, January 30th 2024 at Black Hills National Cemetery.
