Alan F. Tellinghuisen, 76, of Spearfish, SD, passed away Monday, September 3rd 2007 at Spearfish Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be from 2:00PM until 7:00PM with a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00PM on Wednesday, September 5th 2007 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish.
Funeral services will be at 10:00AM on Thursday, September 6th 2007 at United Church of Christ in Spearfish, with Pastor Peg Grzelkowski officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish.
A memorial has been established to benefit the American Legion Post #164 Baseball Program in Spearfish.
Alan was born in Willow Lake, SD on May 10th 1931 to Andrew and Anna (Mundhenke) Tellinghuisen. He attended school in Willow Lake and graduated in 1949. He attended college for a year in Pella, IA before serving in the United States Navy. He married Nola Warkenthien on October 28, 1951 in Willow Lake. The couple lived in Watertown, SD. In 1955 they moved to a farm near Willow Lake. He farmed briefly and then purchased the Willow Lake Locker Plant. In 1963 he moved his family to New Berlin, WI where he sold insurance. In June of 1973 the couple moved to Spearfish where he continued working for National Mutual Benefit Insurance Company. Alan retired in 1994 as Regional Director.
Alan and Nola spent many winters at Lake Havasu City, AZ. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and other outdoor activities. He also enjoyed baseball and followed American Legion Baseball. He liked to watch high school and college sports. He raised horses and enjoyed horseback riding. His wintertime hobby was to build model sailing ships.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 56 years Nola Tellinghuisen of Spearfish, son Roger (Carol) Tellinghuisen of Spearfish, Daughters; Paulette (Paul) Smith of Westminster, CO, Roxanne (Mike) Everhard of Draper, SD, and Kathy (Mike) Ragels of Sioux Falls, SD, 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is also survived by a sister Grace Lunde of Apache Junction, AZ, brothers, Harold (Glennis) Tellinghuisen of Brandon, SD, and Rev. Duane (Inez) Tellinghuisen of Buena Park, CA, and several nieces and nephews.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father and 5 brothers.
