Agnes "Polly" Louise (Erikson) Deppe, 92, of Spearfish, died December 24, 2012 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
She was born to Olaf and Clara Erikson on a homestead 10 miles south of Vivian, South Dakota on May 16, 1920. Growing up, she helped take care of brothers and sisters as well as taking on her share of the chores on the family farm. She worked for another family in Vivian in their home at a young age and spent a year in Arizona with her sister, where she attended a year of high school. She returned to South Dakota and graduated from Presho High School in 1940. After graduation, she joined her sister in Watertown, Wisconsin, where she met Lloyd Deppe. They were married in 1942 and had a wonderful life together until his passing in 2006. Agnes followed Lloyd around the country to various army bases. At one point, she worked with a phone company in California. After Lloyd returned from serving overseas, they settled in southeastern Wisconsin until 2006 when they moved to Spearfish.
Agnes was a homemaker and lovingly raised three children. She also worked outside the home in an ice cream factory, ran a small family business and was a longtime crossing guard for the local police department. She also took an occasional class at a local technical college. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and gardening. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Quilters. She grew up surrounded by music and passed her love of music to her children. She was a woman of faith.
