Clifford Janke

Clifford Elmo Janke, 85, Bellevue, NE and formerly of Lead, died on October 1, 2013.

He was born the second of nine children on March 2, 1928 in Gackle, ND to Jacob C Janke and Christina (Lippert) Janke Mertz.

He married Elsie Katherine Sukut on March 6, 1949 in Fredonia, ND. They farmed in the Lehr/Fredonia area until 1956 when they moved to Lead, SD. Cliff worked at Homestake Mining Company as a contract miner for many years. They had five children Wayne (Joyce) Janke, Wishek, ND, Donna Pleinis, McCook, NE, Clifford, Jr. (Roxy) Janke, Fairmont, MN, Byron (Martha) Janke, Rockford, IL and Maryann (Adrianne) DeWald, Wishek, ND. Elsie passed away July 7, 1975.

On April 17, 1976 he married Jeanette Zulauf in Lead, SD. Jean had four children: Kevin (Cathy) Zulauf, Bellevue, NE, Kenneth (Ramona) Zulauf, Alliance, NE, Christine (Kelly) Payne, Rapid City, SD, Lawrence (Cindy) Zulauf, Salem, NH;

Cliff retired from Homestake in August of 1979 and they moved to Lehr, ND where they lived until Jean passed away on November 14, 2012. December 14, 2012 Cliff moved to Bellevue, NE and lived with Kevin and Cathy Zulauf until the time of his death.

He is survived by his five children; four step-children; two sisters, Agnes Dallman of Lehr, ND, Shirley Brandner of Bismarck, ND; one brother, Ervin Janke of Bismarck, ND; 19 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; many other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wives, parents, four brothers, Lester and Elmo who died in infancy, Leroy and Alvin and one sister Laura Lautt.

Private graveside service will take place at Mountain Lawn Cemetery, Lead SD. A Memorial service will be held in Wishek, ND at a later date.

Arrangements are under the care of the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel in Lead
